Tour 1 (T1) Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl)

Time: 09:00 hrs to 13:00 hrs

Hactl is one of the world’s leading air cargo terminals with unique world-class facilities, highly efficient operations, and innovative technology. Hactl is the only independent air cargo terminal operator at Hong Kong International Airport that has no affiliation to any carrier and provides unbiased service to all airline customers.

Hactl is located in SuperTerminal 1, which is the single largest multi-level air cargo terminal in the world. SuperTerminal 1 has 3,500 Container Storage System positions, 10,000 Box Storage System positions, and a comprehensive range of specialised cargo handling facilities to cater for all cargo types, from temperature-controlled products to valuable goods to livestock. The Terminal is capable of handling up to 3.5 million tonnes of air cargo every year.

This visit will provide participants with an invaluable opportunity to understand the operations of one of the world’s best air cargo terminals and understand Hong Kong’s advantage as an international logistics hub.

Remarks:

  1. Participants CANNOT wear sandals due to safety reasons.
  2. NO photography or filming will be allowed during the terminal tour.

 

Tour 2 (T2) Transport Department’s Traffic Control Centre

Time: 09:00 hrs to 13:00 hrs

Maximum: 40 people (in 2 groups)

Transport Department’s Traffic Control Centre (TCC) in Wan Chai, which has been operating since early 2004, provides accommodation for the Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre, the Area Traffic Control systems in the New Territories, the traffic monitoring system for Tsing Ma/ Tsing Sha Control Area and the Traffic Control and Surveillance System for some strategic routes including Shenzhen Bay Bridge, Tuen Mun Road and part of Tolo Highway.

TCC closely monitors the traffic and public transport situation round-the-clock. When there is any emergency incident, TCC will disseminate real-time traffic and public transport news, and coordinate with police, public transport and tunnel operators, other government departments and parties concerned to alleviate the impact on traffic and public transport services.

In this visit, the Transport Department’s officials will brief the participants on the daily operation of the Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre, the Area Traffic Control systems and the Traffic Control and Surveillance System.

Remarks:
The tour may be cancelled if there is any large-scaled planned events or serious incidents on 20 October 2018 morning.

 

Tour 3 (T3) Autonomous Vehicle in West Kowloon Cultural District

West Kowloon Cultural District Authority is trialling a new form of transportation that will help visitors navigate the West Kowloon Cultural District. The test has been on trial on a fixed route inside the Nursery Park and near the waterfront promenade since July 2017, with a trained vehicle conductor who is stationed on board. Fully equipped with sensors to detect objects in its path, it offers an environmentally friendly mobility solution that interacts safely with pedestrians and cyclists. The selected vehicle for trial is a French-made, completely autonomous, emission-free small-sized vehicle.

The Authority will arrange a briefing and introduction to the delegation the features of the vehicle, the trial undertaken to-date and current findings. The delegation will then be guided in a groups and ride the route as shown below.

 

Tour 4 (T4) Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre

Time: 09:00 hrs to 13:00 hrs
Pick up from: G/F, Phase One (Old Wing), Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre
Maximum: 60 persons (2 groups)

LSCM will introduce to participants the various kinds of technologies developed to serve the needs of industries, community, government and public sector, as well as its new initiatives.

The technologies that will be introduced on the day include the visually impaired RFID Navigation System, Baby Tracking in Hospital Environment, Location-based Technologies for Slope Management, iFollower, Multiple Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGV) in Warehouse and Smart Service Robots for Elderly, etc.

During the visit, the participants will be able to learn more about the innovative technologies available for enhancing the operation efficiency of different industries.

Part I : Presentation: Transformation of Passenger Experience via Technovation at HKIA

The Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is progressing to build the third runway and associated facilities to provide the much needed capacity to maintain the aviation hub in the region. Facing capacity pressure and increasing passengers’ expectations, the HKIA is adopting innovation and technologies to enhance operational efficiencies and customer services.  The presentation will share with the guests how the Hong Kong International Airport is driving technovation to transform passengers’ experience along their journey.
